Happy New Year – 2012!

Weather was predicted at 70 in San Francisco (clearly a heat wave according to our revised system), so what could we do? Patricia, Caroline and David joined us for a sail under the GG Bridge and around the mouth of the Bay, where we were delighted by the multitudes of porpoises. It wasn’t a heat wave, but I easily loaned my coveralls to the elder, and kept my feet warm in new sailing boots. Lucky me!

Attack of the boats!

Sunday October 9th, headed South from the East side of Angel Island. The Blue Angels had been trying to do a show, but it was cancelled early in because of, well, you can see why… and all the spectator boats scattered for their home ports. We’re, of course, headed directly into them. Everyone survived, but it was like a scene from a bad movie. Photo credit to Marcus Choy.

Up the Petaluma River (Fleet Week Oct 2011)

Our first adult sleepover! We found that six adults can sleep comfortably and that 3 women can all have showers in the morning. An easy cruise across San Pablo Bay and up the Petaluma River. A lovely dinner at Central Market – great wine, food etc (too bad two of us were on a cleanse, but it still worked!). And, breakfast at the Apple Box was more amazing than I had heard. Morning in the Turning Basin was so still & peaceful – wildlife was the only thing moving.

A special time in Benicia – Deb was adopted into the family; Audrey met us there and sent the car home with one-way passengers; Sierra came back down – it was fun to see Terry and Steve on their boat again!

Due to the nature of San Francisco (being in the northern climes), we have had to redefine our categories for optimal weather:

Fifties = BALMY

Sixties = WARM

Seventies = HOT

Eighties = FIRES OF HELL

Nineties = SO UNUSUAL AS TO DEFY DESCRIPTION

Amy and Simon brought the boys for an afternoon of sailing – we thought we might see some whales so went out the Gate; porpoise and birds were about it.
